My Journey: A High School Night;

In High School, like many students, I had a part-time job. I worked at a buffet-style restaurant. I worked the buffet as a cook. The owners did not believe in having male servers, and they all wore a wraparound type of skirt. One year, I asked the owner if I could switch uniforms with one of the servers for Halloween. I had a really cool manager; they had no problem with me doing it. However, they said they did not think I could pull it off and look like a normal girl. Little did they know I had lots of female friends. When Halloween Day came, my friends came over to my house and helped me by bringing a wig and some makeup. This was one of the best days I have had in a long time. When they were done making me up, everyone was shocked. The first thing my dad said when I came out and showed my parents was, "I hope 'he' doesn't like to wear that?" When my dad said that, it kind of crushed me and broke my heart. Granted, I was not out to them.
When I got to work, no one recognized me. They all thought they had a new employee. I remember my manager approaching me a little later in the shift. She told me that I had scared some little child. That child had come up to me to ask if I had any more of something I had run out of. Apparently, I had used a deep voice. The child ran back to their parents and told them about me. The child had said to them that I had a deep voice and that I had not shaved my legs. My manager and I had a good laugh over that. That night was amazing for me.
