My Journey: My fiancé and Me

Shortly after starting my medical transition, I received a message from a person on a dating app. For the first couple of months, we texted each other on the app. It was becoming increasingly difficult to hold a conversation while texting, so I decided to give them my phone number. Then, we would talk on the phone almost every day for hours. We were able to talk on the phone for so long because we were both truck drivers. This went on for a few months, then we decided to meet. They were going to a different trucking company, and I decided to visit them during orientation. I drove about 11 hours to meet them. I wanted to have a little fun by spinning a few slot games after dinner the first night. They really were not into gambling, but they went with me. When I pulled out a crisp $100 bill and put it into the game, their eyes went as big as dinner plates. I asked them if they wanted to play as well, and they said no, that they were fine watching me. Well, I could not have that, so I pulled out another $100 bill and put it into the game in front of them. What they did not know was that I had three hundred to spend on the games, so when I did not win on the game I was playing, I put in another $100, and the look on their face was priceless. At the time, I had a very good job, so I had some money to spend on slot games. After we lost everything, we went back to their room and had some other type of fun. It would be another six months before we would meet up again.

The next time we were able to meet, we met at a truck stop. We were actually heading in opposite directions. It just worked out that we could stop for the night at the same place. We went and had dinner and chatted for a bit, then I followed them to their truck for a ;-) "night cap." I ended up staying the night in his truck. That is when we discovered that there really is not enough room for two people in the sleeper of a semi-truck. This would be our pattern for the next couple of years. We would text or talk every day and try to meet on the road somewhere for the night. They proposed to me about two and a half years later. Of course, I said "YES". The sad part of this story is that they were not able to move to where I lived for another year. We have been together for about six years now, and we have finally obtained our marriage license. We hope to get married in the next couple of months.
